The hands have done this hundreds of times. Traced the circle. Scaffolded the component. Can do it in their sleep. Line after line of code.
The eyes are in service to the hands. Observing the pieces that make up the whole. Transforming designs into a to-do list that can quickly be crossed off.
But the relationship is shifting.
The eyes are beginning to see more than a set of tasks for the hand to complete. They are beginning to see not only what is there, but what could be there. Branching futures with the forest of craft emerging from the trees of a single task.
The hands are slowing. Hours of work now comes with days of soreness and pain. Tasks now prioritized for impact instead of indiscriminately completed.
The eyes too are dimming. Hours of blue light finally taking their toll. The duality of finally being able to see more and having to hold things closer.
Years of work revealing itself in my body, physically marking the time. I think this is what comes with age. Solving familiar problems, in different contexts. Knowing that intention can help guide intuition. That each stroke carries with it years of practice.
The Hands & The Eyes.
