just setting up my twttr
Some day soon you’re going to write your last tweet. Or post your last story. Or etc etc etc.
I’m thinking about the computer in the bedroom of my childhood bestfriend.
How computing used to be tied to a physical location. How the first time I saw Twitter I thought “so this is basically one big MySpace comment section?”. How we would take turns logging off and on to respond to crushes and tweet nonsense.
I’m thinking of this as seasons change.
As everything we took for granted begins to fade. As sunlight becomes scarce and meals move inside. As days in the city begin to mostly consist of night.
I’m thinking of this as my screen time starts to tick up more.
As my blanket spends more time with me on the couch than in the basket next to it. As one of our communication hubs hurtles towards a cliff. As the vibes shift to one of a middle school graduation, “let’s keep in touch, even though I’m moving to the platform in the next town over”
I’m thinking of the innumerable pits this place has opened in my stomach.
As the worst news you’ve ever read is sandwiched between poetry and jokes. As you find out the state has taken another human right and the next tweet is a brand pretending to talk like a black teenager.
Did you know that I had a coworker named Geoff who once asked me about “Black Twitter”. Did you know that Black people built this place? Did you know I used to worry I would have type out my own brother’s name as a hashtag? Did you know that one day you might type mine?
Did you know that whereever we flock to next, we will be alright. That god is change.
